Luol Deng Returns to SSANBA

We are proud to announce that Luol Deng of the LA Lakers will be special guest at this year’s South Sudanese Australian National Classic.

Deng has been an avid supporter of the SSANBA since initially visiting the National Classic in 2013. Deng again came to Melbourne in 2015 to run a clinic with his former high school coach Joe Mantegna and Luol Deng Foundation CEO Steve Vear. 2017 will again see a clinic run by Deng, Mantegna and Vear in an extended format, with an under-18 All Star game to follow and provide an excellent showcase for the talent the tournament has to offer.

Deng’s 2015 National Classic clinic was run for over 70 young people from within the SSANBA community at Frankston Basketball Stadium. On his involvement, Deng said,

“I first attended the SSANBA Tournament in July 2013 and was amazed by the talent at the tournament as well as how the community all comes together in one place. I left knowing that I had to get more involved with the project where this year I am excited to bring my High School Coach, Joe Mantegna, with me to run a basketball clinic to help the kids and coaches grow and develop their skills.”

The Luol Deng National Classic Clinic will be held on Monday July 10, a day after the three-day National Classic culminates with finals to be held on Sunday July 9. We look forward to bringing you updates from both the tournament and Deng clinic.
